Jal Jeevan Mission was announced on 15th August, 2019 by Hon’ble Prime Minister from the rampart of Red Fort was a historic moment, which aims to provide 100% functional tap water connection to every household in India. Jal Jeevan mission’s vision, mission and essence are described below –

Vision: Vision of Jal Jeevan Mission is to provide drinking water to every rural household in India in adequate quantity, of prescribed quality, on regular and long-term basis, and at an affordable service delivery charge leading to improvement in living standards of rural communities.

Mission: The target is to supply 55 Litre capacity per day of POTABLE WATER to 19 Crore rural households in India through Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC)by 2024.

Essence: The Essence of Jal Jeevan Mission is “Building Partnership and Changing Lives.” The idea is to merge and collaborate with competent Government and Private Institutions for various support activities to be carried out under Jal Jeevan Mission in order to achieve the goal of providing Functional Household Tap Connection to every rural household by 2024. The support activities will help in developing responsible and responsive leadership among communities ensuring long-term sustainability of the water supply systems.
